Can I Use Noni for Joint Pain?

You have probably heard of Noni juice at some point either in a media advertisement or on one of those popular medical afternoon television shows. As someone with chronic joint issues at a rather young age, I am up for trying just about anything relatively natural to relieve it and Noni is an herb that has actually been used traditionally as a dye in Polynesia. It is an evergreen shrub that can be found in the tropic areas of the Pacific Ocean.

Noni and its Uses

This natural remedy does have a history of being purportedly helpful for joint pain. It is also said to be beneficial for skin conditions. In terms of joint pain, a topical preparation using Noni is made and then applied directly to the painful joint. Now, juices, teas and pill forms of the herb are far more common. I personally use the juice form.

Now, I also take prescription medications for joint pain on top of using Noni, so it is hard to say which is working when, but since I started drinking this juice I have noticed less joint pain. I was taking the prescriptions before this juice, so it seems as if this juice has helped at least a little bit. It took almost two months of drinking this juice daily for me to start really noticing a difference in my joint pain.

Does Science Back this Up?

Noni really has not been well-studied as of now. In the limited laboratory research that has been conducted, this natural remedy has show some immune-stimulating, antioxidant and tumor-fighting properties.

Does Noni Cause Side Effects?

It is important to remember that “natural” does not equal “safe” and that all things we put into our bodies have the potential to cause side effects. If you have kidney problems, do not use Noni as it is high in potassium. It is also said that anyone with liver issues should avoid this natural remedy due to some of the compounds it contains.

I personally had no side effects, but this does not mean that everyone will have no side effects and that it is safe for everyone. Very little research has been done to test the safety or the possible side effects of the remedy. Before you add Noni to your joint care routine, talk to your doctor to make sure that it is safe for you.
